In October 2013, there were 491 new HIV Ab sero-positive individuals confirmed by the STD/AIDS Cooperative Central Laboratory (SACCL) and reported to the HIV and AIDS Registry (Table 1). This is 66% higher compared to the same period last year (n=295 in 2012).

In June 2021, there were 1,496 confirmed HIV-positive individuals reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP). This was two times higher compared to the same time period last year (490). The increase in the number of diagnosed HIV cases this month was due to the inclusion of delayed reports from previous months. Sixteen percent (232) had clinical manifestations of advanced HIV infection at the time of testing.

In May 2021, there were 645 confirmed HIV-positive individuals reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP) and were accounted to the total (86,617) reported cases since January 1984. Moreover, 16% (104) had clinical manifestations of advanced HIV infection at the time of testing. Ninety-four percent (607) of the reported cases were male. Of the total male cases, 2% (12) reported their gender-identity as female (transgender women) at the time of testing. Further, half of the cases (50% or 324) were 25-34 years.

In April 2021, there were 1,120 confirmed HIV-positive individuals reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP) and were accounted to the total (86,771) reported cases since January 1984. Moreover, 17% (193) had clinical manifestations of advanced HIV infection at the time of testing. Ninety-six percent (1,076) of the reported cases were male. Of the total male cases, 1% (15) reported their gender-identity as female (transgender women) at the time of testing.

The 5th AIDS Medium Term Plan (5th AMTP) envisions the halt to the present rate of HIV infection in the Philippines by preventing the further spread of HIV infection and reducing the impact of the disease on individuals, families, communities, and various sectors.

This intervention-linked research aimed to (1) rapidly reduce the prevalence of common curable STIs in Angeles City and (2) maintain STI reductions over time.

An explosive HIV epidemic among PWID exists in Cebu City. In 2008 HIV transmission was primarily due to sexual contact (90%), but by 2012 it was injecting drug use (77%). The 2011 biological and behavioural surveillance in Cebu City reported HIV prevalence among PWID to be 54%, with Hepatitis C prevalence reaching 94%.

In February 2015, there were 646 new HIV Ab sero-positive individuals (Table 1). This was 33% higher compared to the same period last year (486) [Figure 1], and was the highest number of cases reported since 1984.

In March 2021, there were 1,041 confirmed HIV-positive individuals reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP). Fifteen percent (156) had clinical manifestations of advanced HIV infectiona at the time of testing. Ninety-five percent (991) of the reported cases were male. The median age was 28 years old (age range: 6-65 years old). More than half of the cases (52% or 538) were 25-34 years old and 30% (316) were 15-24 years old at the time of diagnosis.
