Every Woman Every Child (EWEC), developed by PMNCH partners in 2010, brings the voice of women, children and young people to centre stage in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) era. In 2015, the United Nations (UN) launched the EWEC Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (Global Strategy), building on momentum under the EWEC movement’s first Global Strategy (2010– 2015) and aligning with SDGs.  

The HIV surveillance system in Hong Kong comprises 5 main programmes to provide a detailed description of the local HIV/AIDS situation. They are (a) voluntary HIV/AIDS case-based reporting; (b) HIV prevalence surveys; (c) sexually transmitted infections (STI) caseload statistics; (d) behavioral studies; and (e) HIV-1 genotyping studies. All data are collected, analysed and disseminated regularly by the surveillance team of Special Preventive Programme (SPP), Centre for Health Protection (CHP), Department of Health(DH). At present, the latest HIV/AIDS statistics are released at quarterly intervals at press media briefings and in electronic format (http://www.aids.gov.hk). Data from various sources are compiled annually and released in this report.

The Hong Kong STD/AIDS update is a composite report on HIV/AIDS reporting and STI caseload statistics published 3 monthly. The current issue has the updated information up to December 2018.

This case study is about the Consortium of MSM and Transgender Networks (the Consortium), a groundbreaking collaboration of global and regional networks by and for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender people. It describes the Consortium’s achievements, good practices and lessons learned, with a focus on its most recent work. The case study is framed around eight key achievements from the Consortium’s action on HIV, sexual health and human rights. Each one is illustrated by examples of the work of members. All of the examples are inter-dependent – with the efforts of one or more networks not possible without the backing of other members and the Consortium as a whole. The examples also highlight critical issues about coordinating a large and effective Consortium. This includes the importance of having agreed principles, transparency, consistent communication, strong financial and programmatic management, and skilled group facilitation, especially during tough decision-making.

Gender equality and the political empowerment of women are key elements for the consolidation of sustainable democracies worldwide.  Global and regional organizations play an important role in the development of legal and policy frameworks, as well as in the design of effective action plans to better support the advancement of the gender equality agenda at the global, regional and national levels. This report presents key instruments for promoting gender equality and political empowerment of women that are currently in place at the global and regional levels, highlighting the challenges, opportunities and successes that each organization has encounter in the implementation within their respective regions.

Timor-Leste’s 4th National Human Development Report responds to the development aspirations of the youth of Timor-Leste, the drivers of the nation’s future development. The report examines well-being and identifies options for seizing the demographic dividend, an issue that profoundly influences human potential and sustainable development.

Start Free Stay Free AIDS Free is a collaborative framework to accelerate the end of the AIDS epidemic among children, adolescents and young women by 2020. This progress report reflects achievements made during the first year of implementation (through December 2016), as countries have taken actions in line with new or existing national strategies. The most recent data on country progress in 2016 are based on country-reported data and country-developed models using Spectrum software that were reported to UNAIDS in 2017.

The consultation was convened in Malaysia (Putrajaya, 27 to 28 February 2018) by the Malaysian Ministry of Health and WHO to discuss potential approaches for validation of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B inviting national and international experts.

Following the government’s ongoing ‘war on drugs’, law enforcement operations increased, leading to a rapid rise in the numbers of people held in detention and prison facilities. This, in turn, worsened already poor prison conditions in the Philippines. Official government data revealed a 511% congestion rate in Philippine jails and current trends show a surge in jail population attributable to ‘the increase in the number of drug-related cases’.

Speaking on the UN International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 in 2016, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasised the role of local communities and authorities in responding to drug-related issues, and strongly encouraged the promotion and strengthening of quality community-based treatment and rehabilitation services. His apparent support for a shift towards drug dependence treatment services that do not involve coercion and detention seemed to align with the government’s approval of Cambodia’s first five-year National Strategic Plan for Harm Reduction 2016-2020 (NSPHR) in 2016.
