Child marriage is widely recognized as a violation of human rights and a hindrance to national development. In fact, evidence suggests that the practice of child marriage is closely associated with lower educational attainment, early pregnancies, intimate partner violence, maternal and child mortality, increased rates of sexually transmitted infections, intergenerational poverty, and the disempowerment of married girls. In committing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the international community has vowed to end the practice of child marriage by 2030. This report looks at historical trends, with a focus on selected countries that have recorded significant declines in child marriage prevalence. It offers an overview of changes in the practice of child marriage together with a review of other shifts that have occurred in these countries in terms of girls’ access to education and employment opportunities, as well as economic development and poverty reduction.

The COVID-19 pandemic has raised concerns about the mental health of a generation of children. But the pandemic may represent the tip of a mental health iceberg – an iceberg we have ignored for far too long. The State of the World’s Children 2021 examines child, adolescent and caregiver mental health. It focuses on risks and protective factors at critical moments in the life course and delves into the social determinants that shape mental health and well-being. It calls for commitment, communication and action as part of a comprehensive approach to promote good mental health for every child, protect vulnerable children and care for children facing the greatest challenges.

The Save the Children Nepal program under the Global Fund HIV grant has implemented a Cash Transfer Program for children living with HIV (CLHIV) in Nepal since mid-April 2014. The Community Care Centre (CCC), managed by the National Association of People Living with HIV (NAP+N), implements the program in 66 districts of Nepal. The program provides 1000 Nepali rupees (approximately 10 USD) a month to CLHIV up to 18 years old. Youth LEAD, in collaboration with its country partners, Young Key Populations (YKP) Lead Nepal, and NAP+N conducted a national study to assess the situation of CLHIV receiving cash support, including the children affected by AIDS who do not receive the cash support.

This implementation brief addresses integration of HIV testing services into family planning (FP) services. It is intended as a practical resource for national health programmes seeking to introduce or scale up HIV testing and linkage to HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infection, and antiretroviral therapy services in FP. This document highlights emerging good practices and country experiences of integrated HIV prevention and testing services within FP and advocates for increased linkage for FP clients to HIV services according to their needs.

Joint actions by the Global Fund and UNAIDS are guided by a strong alignment of strategies, goals and targets. UNAIDS has worked with all stakeholders to set a common agenda and targets within the Global AIDS Strategy 2021–2026, and the United Nations General Assembly confirmed this strategy and its ambitious targets within its 2021 Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS: Ending Inequalities and Getting on Track to End AIDS by 2030.

Together for Girls is proud to share “Building a Safer World,” our 2019-2021 Stakeholder Report. This report highlights three years of global collaboration as a partnership, generating quality data, raising awareness of solutions and galvanizing change.  With the increased risks of violence against children during COVID-19 and beyond, our partnership’s mission is more urgent than ever. However, the results of our collective effort demonstrate that when we work together, we can successfully respond to global challenges that once seemed insurmountable.

Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is central to children and young people’s well-being, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy and responsible choices in their lives. This report draws on multiple data sources to provide analysis of countries’ progress towards delivering good quality school-based CSE to all learners. 85 per cent of 155 countries surveyed have policies or laws relating to sexuality education, with considerably more countries reporting policies to mandate delivery at secondary education level than at primary level. However, the existence of policy and legal frameworks do not always equate to comprehensive content or strong implementation.

The purpose of this Training Package is to build the capacity of prosecutors on providing quality and holistic responses to survivors of violence, and to better understand survivor’s perspectives, experiences, to bring them justice and address their needs. The goal of this training is that gender-transformative, trauma informed and survivor-centered approaches are utilized in prosecution and that gender biases are addressed, to ensure that the legal system supports survivors of violence against women in a respectful and empowering way. The Curriculum includes common key principles and considerations for all prosecutors working with survivors of violence, and includes practical step-by-step instructions for trainers, as well as exercises, and handouts with case studies.

The Gender Equality in Numbers report consolidates available data on key gender-related Sustainable Development Goal indicators and the minimum set of gender-related indicators for Nepal. It provides an overview of commitments to gender equality and women’s empowerment and key statistics in population demographics, health, education, leadership, labour and economic empowerment, poverty reduction and ending all forms of gender based violence. This will serve as a key tool for policymakers and gender equality advocates in government, civil society, and international organizations to advocate for further advances in gender equality.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (“Cooperation Framework”) is an agreement between the UN and the host government and determines a country’s development priorities as well as the UN development system’s contributions to them. As AMR hinders progress in many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), coordinated action across UN organizations and government agencies is needed to effectively tackle AMR across all sectors. A new guidance for UN country teams builds the case for AMR as a development issue and component of broader issues such as One Health, UHC and health security, food systems and planetary health: it aims to establish AMR as a higher priority on the policy and development agenda; stimulate multi-stakeholder interest; and attract funding.
