This 2013 publication has incorporated additional information such as relating to Pharmacy Services, Maternal and Child Health Services, Hospital Specialist Services Attendances, and Age Standardised Mortality Rate of Noncommunicable Diseases. The implementation of the Brunei Darussalam Healthcare Information Management System (Bru-HIMS) also contributes to enhancing the efficiency of data collection process and that health information can be easily and timely accessed, hence also improving the quality of health information publication in the future.

The health information that are published includes data relating to the health status of the nation and are vital in supporting evidence based policy making and planning of health care services in the country. Some of these information also presents key indicators for the national health strategies as well as part of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. The health data produced also aligns with WHO health statistics – indicator compendium.

The Ministry of Health aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Brunei Darussalam through a high quality and comprehensive health care system which is effective, efficient, responsive, affordable, equitable and accessible to all in the country.

Population aged 60 years and above for the year 2017 is represented with 9.0% of total population in which 4.3% and 4.7% are made up of male and female population respectively.

On the residential status, the share of the Brunei Citizens was around 76.8%, Permanent Residents 7.8% and temporary Resident 15.4%. As is the case of affluent countries with small populations, the foreign proportion of the population is rather high. The relatively high number of forign population is being contributed by the number of working immigrants.

In 2015, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has came to the end of their term. On 25 September 2015, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted the new development agenda "Transforming our world: the 2030 agenda for sustainable development". The post-2015 agenda comprising 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets, including one specific goal for health with 13 targets.
