This report tries to highlight these successes as much as the work that still needs to be done in order to reduce new infections further and to ensure that all the people in need of treatment receive ARVs.

The annual HIV Sentinel Sero‐surveillance survey, the systematic and regular collection of information on the occurrence, distribution and trends of HIV infection and factors associated with the infection, has been carried out since 1992.

The reporting process has been led by the National AIDS Programme of the Ministry of Health. Data on coverage data and financial resources were collected directly from implementing partners.

The National AIDS Programme (NAP) under the Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with stakeholders and with support from UNAIDS, WHO and UNICEF, led the reporting process in Myanmar.

The two-decade-old HIV epidemic in Myanmar is largely concentrated among population subgroups with high-risk behaviors.

HIV Sentinel Sero-surveillance (HSS) is the systematic and regular collection of information on the occurrence, distribution and trends of HIV infection and factors associated with the infection for use in Public Health Action.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic in Myanmar is concentrated among men who have sex with men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID) and female sex workers (FSW). HIV prevalence in the adult population aged 15 years and older was estimated at 0.54% in 2014. But data from HIV Sentinel Sero-Surveillance (HSS) indicates higher prevalence in 2014 among key populations: FSW 6.3%, MSM 6.6% and PWID 23.1%. Compared to 2012 data, the prevalence has declined from 7.1% in FSW and 8.9% in MSM, but has increased from 18% in PWID.

In 2011, the implementation of the second National Strategic Plan on AIDS in Myanmar started. The NSP II covers the period from 2011‐2015. It builds upon the NSP I, but introduces also some changes to the structure and approach.

The second Myanmar National Strategic Plan on HIV and AIDS, 2011–2015(NSP II),wasdeveloped in 2010. Progress onthe implementation of theplan is reportedon a yearly basis. The information included in this report has been provided by organizations involved in the national response to HIV and AIDS in 2012.
