Between October- November 2008, a small rapid assessment of male adolescent sexual exploitation and abuse, along with HIV risk and vulnerability among males who have sex with males, was conducted in Kabul, Kandahar and Maz-e-Sharif in Afghanistan. Preceding this, a scoping mission, a literature review, and a training workshop for the study teams were conducted.

Statistical Yearbook for Asia and the Pacific 2015 - facts and trends at the outset of the 2030 Development Agenda, which provides a first snapshot overview of development trends aligned with the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This information will help to ensure better, more informed decision-making and will directly support the efforts of governments, development partners, and the people of Asia and the Pacific to successfully implement the ambitious goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda.

Based on interviews with drug users, the family members of drug users, key informants and Government officials, this study aims to provide an insight into the origins, evolution and impact of drug use on users and their families across Afghanistan.

Reliable and comparable data on violence against women is essential for prevention and response efforts. UNFPA’s first geospatial dashboard on intimate partner violence focuses on sub-national data. It features disaggregated data on IPV by age, place of residence, employment, education, and household wealth, and includes data for 119 countries.

Contraception within the Context of Adolescents’ Sexual and Reproductive Lives Country Factsheet provides information on HIV/AIDS, STIs, gender-based violence, sexual activity in the country.

The assessment provides a review of existing legislation, in terms of their provisions for non-custodial measures and sanctions, with particular focus on the provisions for offenders with mental healthcare needs, drug users, women, juveniles and first time non-violent offenders.

The program described herein has been agreed jointly by the Government and UNFPA. This Country Programme Action Plan, consists of 10 parts wherein the general policies, priorities, objectives, strategies, management responsibilities and commitments of the Government and UNFPA are described, and two Annexes. UNFPA will enter into a formal agreement with the Government in the near future as to its operations in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan was witness to considerable achievements in the past two years in response to HIV and AIDS which have been reflected in this report. This report will serve as a baseline for reporting on Global AIDS Response Progress Report (GARPR) indicators as a way to track Afghanistan progress and achieving declaration of commitment on HIV and AIDS. This gives the current state of the national response and progress towards achieving national targets for universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support in Afghanistan.

The snapshot does not intend to be an analysis of issues for women and girls relating to COVID-19. Rather it is an account of the responses of courageous human rights workers from nine national human rights institutions in the Asia Pacific Region, who have highlighted some of the issues that women and girls are facing in their countries and how they, and their institutions, are responding to these issues. It is hoped that, by sharing these case studies, the challenges, tools and strategies for responding to, and supporting recovery from COVID-19, may also be shared.
