Sentinel Surveillance is carried out once a year state-wise, all over India to look at the HIV infection trends. The 12th round of HIV Sentinel Surveillance was carried out at 55 designated sites across West Bengal. 21 sites for ANC attendees, 9 for STD clients, 4 for IDUs, 4 for MSMs, 1 for Migrant Labors, 5 for Truckers and 11 for FSWs have been selected following the operational guidelines for HIV Sentinel Surveillance – 2008. | |

The national response to the HIV epidemic is guided by data obtained through HIV sentinel surveillance. The HIV Sentinel Surveillance, conducted annually since 1998, generates data to improve tracking of HIV trends, as well as improves the understanding of the epidemic’s characteristics and its level of proliferation across geographical areas.

A systematic surveillance system for HIV and risk behaviours is essential for a country to monitor its prevalence of HIV and the risks of an epidemic as well as trends over time. All available evidence in Bhutan suggests that HIV prevalence is indeed low in the country but at the same time, risks may be high. Download this publication |

Truckers are one of the most frequent clients of female sex workers (FSWs). In Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) Survey 2009 about 58 precent FSWs have reported truckers as their frequent clients. Since 1999 HIV prevalence studies are being conducted among truckers. Download this publication |

The Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Truckers (IBBS 2009) was launched on February 20, 2009. A total of 400 truckers were recruited for the study at the Pathlaiya study site. Data for the study was collected between February 28, 2009 and April 25, 2009. The survey measured HIV and syphilis prevalence among truckers along with information on variables which are associated with a risk of HIV infection, such as condom use, sexual behaviors, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, reported cases of sexually transmitted infections (STI), STI treatment behaviors, exposure to HIV/AIDS messages and alcohol and drug habits Download this publication |
