In 2003, the first case of HIV was reported in Timor-Leste (commonly know as East Timor). As of 2009, there were 151 cumulative reported cases of HIV – among whom 71 were female, 80 were male and 14 were children. Also as of 2009, 20 deaths had due to AIDS had been reported2.
