
Since the beginning of the epidemic in the early 1980s, men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender people have been disproportionately affected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The risk for infection remains high among them; and there has been a resurgence of HIV infection among MSM, particularly in industrialized countries.
