This report provides biological and behavioral information on HIV among mine workers in Balochistan from a survey conducted in September 2011 in the mining areas of Muslim Bagh, Sorange and Mach. The purpose of the study was to collect, analyze and disseminate accurate information on the prevalence of key risk behaviors and of HIV among mine workers in order to deliver sustained and effective HIV prevention,treatment care and support services. A cross-sectional behavioral and biological survey was conducted among this group. Data were gathered from mine workers using a structured questionnaire. |

This report presents the findings from the second round of the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey (IBBS) among the wives of migrant laborers in Achham, Doti, Kanchanpur, and Kailali districts of Far-West Nepal. This survey collected data from 600 spouses of those migrant laborers who temporarily migrate or have migrated to India to work as laborers. The survey measured the prevalence of HIV among the study population. It also looked at multiple factors associated with risks for HIV infection; including condom use; sexual behavior; knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs); STI treatment history; exposure to HIV/AIDS awareness messages and programs; and alcohol/drug use habits. This study is the second round of the integrated bio-behavioral survey (IBBS) conducted among 200 female sex workers (FSWs), both street and establishment based, in Pokhara. The IBBS was carried out during the months of January and February 2006. The survey measured HIV and syphilis prevalence among FSWs and variables which are associated with risk of HIV infection, such as condom use, sexual behaviors, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, reported cases of sexually transmitted infections (STI), STI treatment behaviors, exposure to HIV/AIDS messages and drug habits. This survey was also undertaken to compare the findings for condom use and sexual behavior of FSWs in Pokhara from this study with findings from the 2004 study. Download this publication |

This study is the third round of the integrated bio-behavioral survey (IBBS) conducted among truckers in Pathlaiya, Bara district. The IBBS was carried out during the months of January and March 2006. The survey measured HIV and syphilis prevalence among truckers and variables which are associated with risk of HIV infection, such as condom use, sexual behaviors, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, reported cases of sexually transmitted infections (STI), STI treatment behaviors, exposure to HIV/AIDS messages and drug habits. This survey was also undertaken to compare the findings for condom use and sexual behavior of truckers driving on the east-west highway with findings from the previous rounds. The National Center for AIDS and STD Control (NCASC), Nepal has developed a comprehensive National Surveillance Plan for HIV and AIDS which includes Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveys (IBBS) to be conducted at regular intervals among most at risk populations (MARPs).These surveillance studies are aimed at assessing health risk behaviors and measuring the prevalence of HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) among MARPs, as well as monitoring trends in the epidemic to inform the HIV response in Nepal.
