Summary Report - Behavioural Surveillance Survey in Gujarat, India. DFID, Gujarat State AIDS Control Society and FHI (2001)This report is part of a series of baseline surveys conducted to monitor the impact of HIV/STI prevention programmes in five states of India: Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Orissa, West Bengal and in the Healthy Highways Project. The surveys conducted include behavioural surveillance surveys (BSS), STI/HIV prevalence surveys and health care providers surveys. Together these surveys follow the methods outlined by UNAIDS/WHO for evaluation and monitoring of large scale HIV/STI prevention programmes.

Summary Report: Behavioural Surveillance Survey in Healthy Highway Project, India. DFID and FHI (2001)This report is a summary of the methodology and findings of the Healthy Highways Project (HHP) HIV Risk Behaviour Surveillance Survey (BSS). This survey was part of the impact assessment of HIV prevention activities in the HHP and was conducted in the year 2000. Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB), a leading market research agency, implemented the survey. The technical assistance was provided by Family Health International (FHI) and the funding was from Department for International Development (DFID).

National Baseline BSS among Bridge Group and High Risk Groups, 2001-2002: Part 1- Female Sex Workers and Their Clients. ORG Center for Social Research and National AIDS Control Organization (2001)The key objectives of the National AIDS Control Program are the reduction of the spread of HIV infection in the country and strengthening India’s response to HIV/AIDS on a long-term basis. To meet these objectives, data on the current situation in the country needs to be collected. Such information provides a backdrop for evidence based planning of strategic interventions for the control of HIV/AIDS. The impact of the interventions also needs to be periodically monitored through continuous surveillance.

Behavioral Surveillance Survey in the Highway Route of Nepal: Round No. 3. FHI and USAID (2001) The Behavioral Surveillance survey (BSS) for HIV prevention is based on serologic sentinel surveillance survey methods used in many countries to detect the emergence of HIV and monitor epidemic trends. Behavioral surveillance surveys are systems for quantitatively assessing sexual behavior change, consisting of structured questionnaires, administered periodically to samples of target groups specific geographic areas.
