HIV was first reported in Malaysia in 1986.  As of December 2009, there are 87,710 persons living with HIV and 13,394 AIDS related deaths in Malaysia.  Currently, there are 9 new reported cases of HIV each day, 2 of whom are female while 7 are female.  Among these 6 persons acquired HIV through sharing of contaminated needles while 3 others were infected sexually.
