Biography
Dr. Arvind Pandey is a renowned medical statistician in India and has been contributing to the specialty for over 25 years. Since 2000, he is the Director of National Institute of Medical Statistics (NIMS), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.
His area of interest includes designing and analysis of disease surveillance programmes, behavioural research, clinical trials and statistical computing. He has been a fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation at the department of Biostatistics, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA during 1986-88. Also, he is a fellow of the Indian Society for Medical Statistics (FSMS) and an elected fellow of the Royal Statistical, NACO’s HIV Sentinel Surveillance, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Ministry of health & Family welfare, research programmes of India Council of medical research and other national programmes.
He has guided a number of Ph.D. scholars who are occupying key positions at national and International levels. In addition to a number of research articles published in national and international journals, Dr. Pandey has authored/edited several important books and monographs widely referred by researchers in the area. Some of them are Stochastic Models of Human Reproduction, Biostatistical Aspects of Health, Biosocial Aspects of fertility: Models and Applications, Population and Development in Uttar Pradesh.
He is the chief editor of Demography India (journal of the Indian Association for the Study of Population) for the last three years promoting research in the areas of population and health. Prior to joining NIMS, ICMR, Dr. Pandey was a Professor at the Department of Statistics & Mathematical Demography, International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai.
